Event description
Join us at Small Gods, March 8th from 6-11pm!
Wear your finest 70's caftan or muumuus, decorate yourself in loud jewelry, beaded necklaces and honour the fabulous Mrs. Roper with a dance party... or honestly wear what you want, but be prepared to DANCE!
While this romp is only for 19+, it will be raising much needed funds to support Sidney Pride's Festival on Saturday June 14, so we can throw another epic festival for all ages!
At the Romp, an online silent auciton will be happening and includes prizes such as Rifflandia Super Passes, hotel stays, massages, gift baskets! We will end the bidding at the end of the party!
Born later than 1980???
Let me introduce you to our icon for our Roper Romp:
Helen Roper was the eye-rolling, free-spirited wife to her conservative husband Mr. Roper on Three's Company. The premise was that Mr. Roper only allowed Jack to share an apartment with Chrissy and Janet because he thought he was gay. The plot doesn’t hold up today, but his wife does.
Freethinking and voluptuary, she pooh-poohed her husband’s anti-gay slights and illustrated for Janet and Chrissy how an older woman could have sexual agency.
Mrs. Roper’s popularity included a combination of glamorous drag queen and mother-protector characteristics. She is constantly needling Mr. Roper and her subtle underminding of masculine power is a very fun and pleasurable takedown of the patriarchy.
