Event description

Join Meridiem Wind Orchestra for an evening of musically-inspired climate action! MWO will perform an incredible program of earth-themed pieces composed for the unique instrumentation and timbres of the wind ensemble, with stirring visuals to accompany parts of the show. Stelly's Culinary Arts Program students and their teacher, Eric Schofield, will provide light refreshments at intermission using plant-based ingredients and a zero-waste approach. And while you enjoy those refreshments, you can strike up a conversation with one of the local community and school groups in the foyer, like Institute for Global Solutions, or Parents 4 Climate., and pick up some inspirational ideas for ways we can all contribute to climate solutions on an individual and community level. The music selected for this concert program embraces contemporary themes of planet Earth, centered around the work "Blue Marble" composed by Julie Giroux. "Blue Marble" is inspired by and named after the first full picture of planet Earth taken from space in 1972 from Apollo 17. It has become one of the most reproduced images in history. The emotional impacts of this, and other selected works, can be profound and inspirational for both musicians and listeners. Not only do we believe this music needs to be heard and experienced by more people, but we also believe in its ability to inspire and connect.
