Monkey C Artcade

Monkey C Interactive is the interactive work of artists David Parfit and Scott Amos. Whether it’s a strange and whimsical musical instrument like the Bubble Organ, a giant motion-responsive LED cube sculpture, a tech-house-looping mutant cash register, or a 5-story-tall musical stairwell, Monkey C Interactive’s public art installations and interactive sculptures have amused and delighted countless people in their hometown of Victoria, BC, and at numerous festivals and events including: Shambhala Music Festival, Salmo BC Burning Man, Black Rock City, NV Bass Coast Festival, Merritt BC Rifflandia, Victoria BC Otherworld, Vancouver Island Gabriola Island Music Festival, Gabriola Island G++ Gallery, Victoria BC Victoria Film Festival, Victoria BC Phillips Backyard Weekender, Victoria BC Flux Media Art Gallery, Victoria BC City of Victoria Thinklandia, Victoria BC Spark Festival, Victoria BC Resonance Festival, Shawnigan Lake, BC Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria BC TEDx Victoria, BC Sunset Room, Victoria BC Integrate Arts Crawl, Victoria BC UVic IdeaFest, Victoria BC Light up the Hills, Langford, BC Beakerhead Festival, Calgary AB Light Up the Square, Mississauga ON What the Festival, OR City of New Westminster, BC Winterfest, Yaletown, Vancouver BC Shine Bright New West, New Westminster BC Lunar New year 2022, Midway San Fancisco Winter Arts Victoria Otherworld The Team: Scott Amos: If you catch Scott on the rare occasion that he can find his business cards, you’ll see his title is “Mostly Harmless Mad Scientist.” – The first part, of course, is a nod to writer Douglas Adams. The second is something that he can’t avoid. His studio is full of antique radios, projectors and cash registers, reclaimed parts of forgotten technology, bits and pieces of broken old machines. If it’s got chunky buttons, beefy dials, or has the perfect glint of shiny, he’ll dissect and rewire it, adding lights and circuitry, to create the hardware for Monkey C’s interactive sculptures. David Parfit: It wouldn’t be surprising to find David buried in his headphones, microphone in hand, banging, plucking and bowing every object in sight, hunting for the perfect sound. An accomplished composer of music for film and television, with a background in computer science, he brings the sound and software that make Monkey C’s projects interactive, accessible, and fun.
